HOW ADDICTION SHAPED THE HEART OF JOERIAKNITS
Joeriaknits was founded in 2021 with a clear mission—to support charities across Canada that provide treatment and long-term recovery services for substance use disorders. From the beginning, 20% of our net profits have been dedicated to giving back.
This commitment is deeply personal.
In 2015, our founder learned that her 27-year-old son was battling a fentanyl addiction and fighting for his life. With courage and the support of family and friends, he entered detox at the Salvation Army Harbour Light in Vancouver and later completed a two-month residential recovery program at Cobble Hill Recovery Centre on Vancouver Island.
Following treatment, he lived in stage-recovery housing while rebuilding his confidence and independence. Today, he lives on his own, works in construction, and is supported by a strong recovery community. Now with ten years of sobriety, his journey continues to inspire the values behind Joeriaknits.
We believe addiction is a medical condition, not a moral failing. Meaningful recovery requires compassion, accessible treatment, and long-term support—something that remains critically underfunded and affordable.
In 2021, Joeriaknits donated $550 to the Salvation Army’s Nine Stories of Hope campaign. With the continued support of our knitting and crochet community, that contribution has grown to $5,350 in 2025, helping fund a new addiction treatment centre in Vancouver scheduled to open in 2026.
Every purchase helps support recovery, reduce stigma, and create hope—one stitch at a time.
There is hope. One day at a time.
